Morgan's Marvels Class Newsletter
February 11-14, 2008
Dear
Kindergarten Families,
Mid-February—and Valentine’s
Day—are upon us! See below for information
relating to the 14th. Our daily
readers have been doing a splendid
job!! It’s so exciting to see our boys
and girls joyously reading to their classmates.
In addition, I am thrilled to share that the
majority of our
Kindergartners know at least 50/52 capital
and lowercase letters! Our letter for
this week Uu, and our sight words are: was
& here. Below are the details
regarding the events you see noted on our calendar for this week:
Homework
The
homework is to be turned-in every Thursday. Please
remind your Kindergartner to write their
first and last name
on all homework sheets, and to complete
all sheets in pencil. Thank
you for
your support!
Homework
for February 4-8
--“Before/Between/After”àBe sure to
assist your
Kindergartner in reading and following the directions for this ABC
order practice.
--read at
least 10 minutes a day to/with your
Kindergartner
Extra
Practice
►independently
reciting birthday (month,
date, & year), complete
address (including
zip code),
& telephone number
►independently
tying shoe laces, buttoning buttons, snapping snaps, and zipping
zippers
►practicing
writing your first and last name with a capital letter at the beginning
of each
and the rest of the
letters lowercase.
Friendship/Valentine’s
Cards
Your
Kindergartner is welcome to bring cards for his/her classmates—if you
wish—to
distribute on February 14th. I respectfully
request
that, if your
Kindergartner chooses to do Valentine Cards, s/he does them for
each classmate. This helps avoid the
hurt feelings that come with a child being excluded by
another during the distributing
of the cards. Thank you.

Getting Ready for
First Grade
Please continue to work on
the
“Extra Practice “items above, as they are expectations for our
Kindergartners
by the end of this school year. Independent
first
and
last name writing will
be expected on all work papers & other items within the next couple
of weeks,
so keep practicing!
Ice Cream
Fridays!
Beginning next week,
Morgan’s
Marvels will have the opportunity to purchase ice cream with their
lunch on
Fridays only. Ice cream is
an EXTRA $0.75 above
and
beyond the cost of lunch, even for free/reduced lunch
students.
Please reinforce with your child that 1) ice cream
day is ONLY
on Fridays,
2)
it is each Kindergartner’s responsibility to keep track of and
remember that they have ice cream money for any given Friday (Ms.
Carletta and
I will NOT be
taking
care of or keeping track of the students’ ice cream
money), and 3) regular lunch items must be eaten before s/he can open
&
begin eating his/her ice cream.
Weather
Reminder
In the case of eventful
weather, please
tune in to the local news, 105.5 or WIVK for information on school
closings or
delays.
When
school is delayed 1-2 hours, the following is important information:
--The
cafeteria
will not serve breakfast; please have your child eat breakfast at home.
--Our
lunch
is at 10:00 a.m., so we leave for the cafeteria at 9:55 a.m. Please ensure that your child
